First Rainbow Boogie, Nouvel Air Canada - July 2006 |
The world’s first ever gay skydiving boogie has run in Canada, after months of preparation and hard work by Mark Rejhon and his small team of volunteers who helped to organise the fun event at the Nouvel Air drop zone in Farnham.
This year’s event was a long weekend at the dz, coinciding with the start of the World’s first Outgames at nearby Montreal, and was run along side normal jumping, (tandems and local jumpers).
Kirsten Johnson load organised some “larger” stuff and we tried to build the world’s first large all gay formation. Entry requirements for this jump were, “If you’re a girl and you like girls, or if you’re a guy and you like guys, then you’re in”. I don’t reckon any of the straight jumpers had an issue with this, they were great.
We nearly managed to build a twelve way but the last to dock didn’t quite make it and immediately afterwards the organised loads were sacked due to bad discipline which was unfortunate.
Next year we hope to do this bigger and better at the Rainbow Boogie 2007.

World record all gay formation skydive – 3 point 10 way |
The record, all gay formation is currently a three point ten way which we did the previous jump, although this is unofficial because we didn’t register it, we all know we were there and we have the photographs to prove it.

At the end of play on Saturday, Daniel Paquette organised a large formation for all jumpers. Using both the Twin Otter and one of the Beech 18 aircraft we got the whole 34 way built, a fantastic end to the day especially since many of us were so inexperienced.
